During examination, a patient is being evaluated for hand and upper extremity strength.  When asked to hold a piece of paper between the thumb and index finger in a lateral key grip, the examiner notices that the patient flexes the interphalangeal joint of the thumb as the examiner pulls the paper away from the patient.  Based on these findings, what muscle is MOST likely to display weakness during manual muscle testing?
